Anna Marie (Garcia) Poskey
I too have been enjoying reading everyone’s amazing biographies. My children have encouraged me to write mine before it was too late, and so here I am. I too was on the lost list for a time, which is funny. I was lost in high school, but now I am definitely not lost.
After high school I wanted to finish my Montessori teacher certification but my grandparents insisted I go to college. So off I went. I went to Weber State in Ogden, Utah. Dorm life was interesting and school was all right .The greatest part was I met my husband during the Thanksgiving break. He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base, attached to a F-16 unit. By the end of the summer we were engaged, planning a nice long engagement. The military had other plans and Dan had orders for Germany. We moved the wedding up and were married in February of 1990. Yes, I have been married for 18 years!! The orders to Germany were canceled and instead he was sent to Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During that season I moved back to LA and stayed with my grandparents . Dan returned home safely from that deployment and our next base was in Misawa, Japan where we had our first son Kristopher Austin. We were in Japan for three years. From there we went to Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, NC.
This is where our lives changed. We bought our first house and had a baby girl, Miranda and finally learned about the meaning of life. I believe that for a lot of my life I was searching for something. I know that God had a plan and I surrendered to that plan and began a personal relationship with Christ. Now there is peace, purpose, and fulfillment. I am no longer lost. Our family grew and became stronger here.
But with the military you don’t stay for too long at one place, so our next duty assignment was back to Hill Air Force Base in Utah. I became very sick while there. I developed asthma and in a year only 10% of my lungs were working. They weren’t very hopeful and we decided to leave the military and finish life somewhere else. We spent some time in LA with my grandparents and then we went to spend time with my in-laws in Texas. This was a hard time, but many lessons were learned in faithfulness and trust. We decided to head back to NC and wait and see what God would do. It was there that God healed me of asthma. A doctor once said I would never have 100% of my lungs working , but not only were my lungs working at 100% but I would breathe for two. We had our Elizabeth and shortly after her we had Caleb.
Once out of the military my husband’s line of work changed but no job compared to serving his country. So he went back to work for the Air Force as a civilian. Dan is a hard working, faithful, man of integrity. Dan has finished his Bachelor’s degree and his Master’s while being a husband and a father. He prayerfully leads us. Working for the Air Force as a civilian has allowed us to move closer to LA were my grandparents still live. We are in Colorado Springs now, a short 6 hour drive from home. My grandparent’s health is not what it used to be and we wanted to spend more time with them while we could. My grandparents have given so much to me and my family. They always came to visit us wherever we were and were there for every baby. Now that they cannot travel as easily we can come to them. Our trips to LA involve lots of yard work, home improvement projects, and trips to Smith’s.
We have been here for two and a half years. We traded North Carolina’s hot summers, mild winters, and the beach for Colorado’s cool summers, no humidity, and beautiful mountains. Life here in the Springs is full. Austin is 16, Miranda is 12, Elizabeth is 8 and Caleb is 6. We homeschool the children and things are always interesting. We are now looking at Universities for Austin and helping to prepare him for leading the next generation. Austin is looking at applying to the Air Force Academy and the other service academy’s. Austin has been in the Civil Air Patrol for 4 years and we believe God is preparing him for leadership. Miranda is 12 and is learning what it means to guard her heart and pursue what she was created to do. She has the gift of encouraging people, compassion, and is a faithful friend. Elizabeth see’s life in every color of the rainbow. She is the servant of all in our house. If something is missing, Elizabeth will find it. If you need help with something, Elizabeth will be to the one to help first. Caleb is 6 and brings joy and laughter wherever he goes. He is brave and courageous. I am looking forward to seeing what God will do with his life.
As our 20th class reunion approached I started to contemplate the last 20 years. My life has been redeemed. I am so blessed. God has been faithful to me and my family. He has shown us who He is and who we are in Him. Each child reveals a unique image of God and his character. I am a blessed woman. I know that being a wife that supports her husband and a mother that raises her children to know who God is and that they are loved and that they were created with a purpose is what I was created to do. I know that this season of my life will not last forever and I look forward to whatever the future holds.
I will not be attending the reunion. My youngest son has been having some health issues and he is undergoing tests to figure it all out. I don’t want to be too far from our doctors here, and I don’t want to leave him either. If you would like to contact me you can e-mail me at poskeys5@msn.com. Blessings to all of you.
