I have probably had a very uneventful 20 years compared to most of you. After graduation, I went to college at Fort Hays State University in Kansas. It was good for me to get away from Los Alamos and the comforts of home. But, I missed New Mexico. I came back to Los Alamos after graduating in 92. I worked at LANL for a few months before I moved to Albuquerque to get my MBA at UNM…Go Lobos. I have lived in Albuquerque ever since.
I was fortunate enough to get a student-intern job at Sandia National Labs in 95 That eventually turned into a full-time position, and I have worked at Sandia as a software developer and database administrator for thirteen years.
I was single for most of this time. I had pretty much decided that I was never getting married, and never having kids. Boy, did that change. I met my beautiful wife Tracee in 2005. We were married almost exactly twelve months later. She had two children so I had an instant family. My step-children, Tyler (11) and Haylee (4), are awesome and I love them very much. I am in the process of adopting Tyler. Hopefully, that will be a done deal by the time the reunion rolls around.
…and, we have another one on the way. We are going to have a baby boy in May. I feel too old to be having kids, but I am very excited and I can’t wait for him to arrive.
As a family, we love to go hiking and camping. We make an annual trip to Lake Powell. We have gone on a lot of fun trips over the last couple of years: Carlsbad Caverns, Breckenridge, Maui, Disney World, and the Grand Canyon. I now realize how boring my life was before I met Tracee and the kids.
Sports are still a big part of my life. I go to all of the Lobo basketball and football games that I can. I haven’t played organized basketball in several years, but I play softball and golf. I have been coaching soccer for a few years. I started coaching my niece’s teams and now I am coaching Tyler’s team. I also coached his basketball team. I really enjoy coaching and being around the kids. It is a good time.
I can’t wait to see everyone. I haven’t been to LA for a few years. It will be good to get back. My wife has lived in Albuquerque her whole life, but she has never been to Los Alamos.
Kyle
